Yesterday, in the middle of Part Two, I just felt that I can't do it anymore. The books seems to me horribly overextended and slow-paced; and, dare I add, unimaginative. I skimmed through remaining parts of the book and there were nothing surprising there. Frederick Lewis Allen (July 5, Boston, Massachusetts - Febru New York City) was the editor of Harper's Magazine and also notable as an American historian of the first half of the twentieth century. His specialty was writing about what was at the time recent and popular history.

While the book doesn't overlook the challenges of the day, more prominent are the daily joys of a life surrounded by extended family and lifelong friends.
